Shopping in Stuttgart
Shopping in Stuttgart is easy. The main shopping drag, Königstrasse, has all the big stores. The Klett-Passage is the underground shopping arcade between Königstrasse and the central station. Most of the shops offer cheap practical wares to commuters in a hurry, but are open up to 9.00 p.m. on weekdays.
Schulstrasse became the first pedestrian zone in Germany in 1953, between the Königstrasse and the market square, and but now is more of a fast-food lane than really a place for shopping. The Bohnenviertel has some of the most beautiful and most interesting shops have hidden themselves away in the old part of Stuttgart. Tranquil or fashionable, cosmopolitan or Swabian, shoppers will find Stuttgart in all its diversity in this part of the city.
Along Calwer Strasse, behind the facades of pretty gabled houses and beautiful half-timbered buildings, exquisite luxury shops are an ideal setting for strolling around. Eberhardstrasse with its elegant shops leads into the Karls-Passage (redesigned in 1989) of the Breuninger department store. Live music, elegant boutiques and a stylish brassiere invite shopper to take a breather and linger awhile.
Most stores at Breuningerland have employees that speak very good English and are willing to assist with all your needs. If you are a newcomer and temporarily stay in Sindelfingen, this is usually a first week visit for most arrivals. The food court is amazing as well as the two anchor stores (Breuninger and H&M) seem to really tie in all the other boutiques. Parking is free and fairly easy at Breuningerland. This is located near Patch and Panzer Kasernes.
With three-levels, Mercaden is also a fairly new mall in Stuttgart. Located right in the heart of Böblingen, this mall is relatively close to Panzer Kaserne. Parking at Mercaden is easy but not inexpensive. A major bonus of Mercaden is its location across the street from the Böblingen S-Bahn stop.
This “brand spanking” new mall is located in the heart of Stuttgart. Very close to Robinson Barracks, this beautiful mall is a favorite for many. The Milaneo has over 200 stores and restaurants and is a delight to peruse through. Some of the stores are higher end though, so remember your VAT form.
